More on the revealing of the serpent:

Genesis 3:14 “And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:”

It says here that the serpent goes on its belly. The meaning of the word “go” here means to come or go (walk), live or die.  The serpent comes unto us via the “belly” which represents our carnal nature or our sense of carnal understanding and control.  When we are living through the serpent we are living (comingand going) from our belly (carnal wants and ideals, “earthly”, sensual). Also see previous two posts, where we talk about the serpent representing a part of the ego in us.

Romans 16:18-20 “For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple. For your obedience is come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil. And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.”

The belly can also represent a “way” of life that is opposed to the Christ in us and his way of being. The belly is connected to the part of us that deceives us by “good fair words” or smooth subtle deceptiveness that deceives our heart’s desires and make us erroneously think what we are wanting and what we are creating is good (i.e. following the “belly’s desires is different than seeking God’s will).

Philippians 3:18-19 “(For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)”

The serpent that comes via the belly or desires is a part of our ego revealed to us when our belly or carnal ideals are directing us rather than Christ.

Genesis 3 above also says that the serpent is cursed.  Since this part of us is cursed, we need to be careful that we are not deceived by it thinking it gets us what we think we want.  It says in Philippians that the end of this is destruction and shame.

Proverbs 20:30 “The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so do stripes the inward parts of the belly.”
